2M Marine - M37 IMS race boat
For those IMS fans out there here is the 11.21m M37 from 2M Marine in Villesse in Italy. Designed by Maurizio Cossutti she won the 31-31 foot class at the Audi IMS Italian Offshore Championships in 2006 and 2007.
Below is the official press release from the builder which suffers a little in the translation from Italian to English. But you get the drift...
The style of M37 can be spot at a first glance: this 11.21-metres-long boat features biting personality, strong character and valuable materials.
Manufactured by 2 emme marine – a shipyard established in Villesse (Go) in 2005 – this 37-feet boat features excellent performances and ideally matches grit for racing and exclusive comfort for cruising.
Designed by the creative mind of Maurizio Cossutti, a naval engineer and designer of series and prototype boats featuring great performances – and the co-founder of the shipyard with entrepreneur Massimo Breggion – M37 is the result of several years of experience and study of fast hulls, and special care for safety and sea-keeping performance.
Making the most of the experience that is the foundation of its engineering, M37 rated first, for two years consecutively, in the class of 31-37 feet sailing boats at the 2006 and 2007 Audi IMS Italian Championship of Offshore Sailing, held in Cagliari and in Pescara.
While engineering M37, 2 emme marine also resorted to the contribution of researchers and experts in the nautical and scientific fields, including Crest, a firm specialising in fluid dynamic simulations, and professor Giorgio Contento from the Department of Naval Engineering of the University of Trieste.
HULL AND DECK
A perfect match of lightness and sturdiness, M37 is the result of the application of the most advanced technology and long years of studies on streamlining of hull and appendages to obtain optimum fast-cruising and sea-keeping performance.
Manufactured with a carbon female mould (the technology has been used in America’s Cup only until today), the hull is made of a vacuum-laminated composite material including unidirectional and multiaxial fibreglass. The bottom integrates a steel frame capable of resisting stress of hull and mast, connected to carbon fibre reinforcements.
Structural bulkheads are made of veneer marine plywood glued to both deck and hull.
The keel is composed of hydrodynamic material, with sections specially developed for this project. It is provided with a cast lead bulb with 4% antimony content weighing approximately 1800 kg, reinforced with an internal steel cage.
Outside, the cockpit too is large-sized and studied to guarantee ultimate comfort and relax for the cruising crew.
Two-wheel steering gear with optional sophisticated Carbon Look columns developed on exclusive design by 2 emme marine.
The sporty flowing lines of the boat draw inspiration from the streamlined shapes of sports cars of the 1960s. The low aerodynamic deckhouse features a row of wide longitudinal windows and a peculiar elliptical shape, i.e. the family feeling of the yard. In spite of the compact lines of the boat, the interiors feature great comfort and living quality. Special care was devoted to comfort of space, harmony of shapes and efficient sound-proofing.
RIGGING
The great performances of M37 are also guaranteed by three possible options of deckhouse equipment and a remarkable sail plan, including 105% jib and 135% genoa. The boat has an aluminium mast with two sets of swept-back spreaders, rigged 9/10, and an aluminium boom with a Vang of Boom Kicker type.
Standard rigging includes also 2 primary winches; 2 halyard winches; adjustable mainsheet traveller with ball car; adjustable tracks for genoa; 7 stoppers for halyards; 4 retractable mooring bitts and mainsheet with two-speed traveller.
INTERIORS
Elegant lines and precious materials: M37 stands out with its unique style.
Despite the low profile of the deckhouse, the interiors of this 11.21 metres feature great comfort and living quality, with special care devoted to comfort of space, harmony of shapes. The solutions adopted guarantee ultimate living quality and wide spaces to all interiors.
The interiors of M37 were planned with the cooperation of Interior Design professionals. Wood essences include maple, teak, cherry wood or tanganika walnut (with some lacquered or painted rolled sections). The setting features neat lines and soft dim lighting and neutral colours for panelling.
Studied to guarantee ultimate comfort in long sailing, the wide dinette is bordered by comfortable sofas and complete with an extension table.
The kitchen may be L-shaped or to bulwark (optional). Beautiful and practical, it includes two sinks, elegant drawers and doors and a 120-litre chest fridge.
There are two cabins, of which one with king-size bed, at both ends of the boat, to guarantee ultimate privacy, which is also ensured by absolute soundproofing of all interiors. Bathroom is to the right side. A wide after-peak is also available, with access from both interior and cockpit bench.
Standard divisions of interiors may be customised by owners, who can choose between different wood essences and to add an additional stern cabin.
