1st downwind...

18 January 2010 18:10:35
Leenabarca extends immediately as the boats leave the top mark...

All leaders gybe after a couple of minutes on to port

At the half way point the breeze is down to around seven knots and there is lots of gybing going on as the tacticians try to keep their boats in the most breeze.

Samba Pa Ti look to be hanging on to  second but not challenging Leenabarca at this point. Ninkasi looking strong in third.

First windward mark....

18 January 2010 17:55:26
Leenabarca and Samba bow to bow on starboard approaching the frst winjdward mark.
Leenabarca around first but boats neck aqnd neck on spreader leg. A few words exchanged between the skippers as the crews go for the hoist.

First beat....

18 January 2010 17:49:39
Fleet spread pretty evenly right and left.

Breeze seems very steady from our vantage point with just small oscillations for the tacticians to deal with..

Hard to say but Ninkasi (working the middle left) appear to be well positioned right now.

Boats are just over halfway up first beat.

Melges 32 Race 2 start....

18 January 2010 17:44:39
Fleet away cleanly with no OCS call.

Wind at 025 and around 8-10 knots.

Red away well in the middle of the course.

Ninkasi also away well at windward end.

Yasha a little late at the starboard end and tacked immediately on to port.

Down at the pin it all looked a little congested and boats at that end got away fairly slowly.

Right noew looks like more wind on right side.
